Urbandale School Board Will Consider Pay Increase for District Admins

The proposed hike is more than district principals and administrators have received in previous years.

Urbandale Community School District leaders may receive a pay increase next year should the school board give the green light at its next meeting.

Approval will mean principals and other administrators will receive a 3.84 percent salary hike, the Des Moines Register reported. The increase is part of an overall 3.93 percent total compensation package increase.

In previous years, Urbandale administrators have seen smaller increases; compensation was frozen for the 2010 fiscal year and increased 1.81 percent in 2011, district Chief Financial Officer Shelly Clifford told the newspaper.

Last month, the board approved contracts for regular district staff members, which included a 4.1 percent salary increase.

The contract gives a districtwide increase of $777,016 or 3.9 percent, to the salary and benefits package offered to the employees, district Chief Financial Officer Shelly Clifford told the Des Moines Register in an earlier report, bringing the package’s total cost to just over $21.5 million.
