Webster Elementary PTO Hosts Holiday Shop Saturday

What's better than local, unique and helping an area school?

Saturday is your chance to do just that by heading to Webster Elementary for the first One Stop Holiday Shop.

"We've had parents come up to us and ask us to do this," Abbie Paul, PTO vice president, said of hosting a craft fair. "We wanted to see what needs we were serving - we're serving the vendors and raising funds."

The Holiday Shop includes about 30 vendors, a silent auction and free crafts for kids.

"We decided to find vendors that were a little more unique," Paul said. "A lot of our vendors are parents, some teachers."

Vendors will showcase unique jewelry, handmade onesies, paintings, nail polish and more.

"We advertised with Webster parents first, and almost all were unique businesses," she said.

The support from parents and area businesses, who donated auction items, has been overwhelming.

"We were just really surprised of what came out of that first initial contact," she said. "It's just been amazing to see what companies and crafts people do."

Paul said organizers had hoped to collect about $1,000 in auction items, but businesses far surpassed that expectation.

"The donations were amazing," she said. "Right now we have $5,000 in donations. The Y donated four months, we have Crossfit Primal, Farrell's, Dream Dance lessons and more."

Visitors to the shop will receive one raffle ticket when they pay the $1 admission.

Each vendor will have a donated item that shoppers can use their raffle to enter to win, Paul said.

The silent action table will be located in the hall near the new Webster and Urbandale School District gear.

The silent auction will end at 12:30 p.m. and organizers will start calling winners. Those who win can come back to the school for their item or pay by credit card and pick up at the school next week, Paul said.

"We just think it will be a great community event and a chance for people to see unique items coming from our school and the Urbandale Community," Paul said. "Just come out and check it out."

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Webster Elementary PTO.

The Holiday Shop is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Webster Elementary, 12955 Aurora Ave.
