• Northeast Iowa Food Bank nears $14M goal to expand reach, fight hunger (cbs2iowa.com) — Waterloo's Northeast Iowa Food Bank is nearing a $14 million fundraising goal to expand its facility, aiming to boost annual meal distribution from 8 million to nearly 12 million. The project would add storage, cooler and freezer space, a larger kitchen, and more volunteer room, strengthening support for 125 partner agencies and families facing hunger across northeast Iowa.
• Waterloo police warn of heavy equipment scams tied to fake businesses (cbs2iowa.com) — Waterloo police are alerting residents to fake heavy and farm equipment listings on Facebook Marketplace and websites falsely claiming Waterloo addresses and phone numbers. Scammers using names like Motors Point Solutions and Horizon Elite Motors have already victimized buyers, so locals are urged not to wire money or share personal information and to contact the Better Business Bureau with questions.
• Gabriella Fleming Chases History As Iowa Girls High School State Tennis Brackets Announced (newsbreak.com) — Waterloo will host the Class 2A girls state tennis tournament at Black Hawk Tennis Club and Byrnes Park on October 7–8, bringing top high school players from across Iowa to town. Local interest includes Waterloo Columbus Catholic's doubles team and Waterloo United's pair in the 2A bracket, giving area fans a chance to watch state-level tennis close to home.
