Alice's Road Interchange Costs Increase

The new Waukee/West Des Moines interchange that will open Alice’s Road to development will cost more than originally anticipated.

The design has been changed, resulting in the increased costs, the Des Moines Register reports. The Waukee City Council approved an additional $187,445 to accommodate the design change from a traditional design to a diverging diamond, which will reduce the amount of land necessary for construction to 53 acres from 87.

That increases Kirkham Michael Associates contract to $1,174,085.

The city council unanimously approved the change order, though Councilman Casey Harvey called it “a bitter pill to swallow.”

Waukee and West Des Moines will split the cost of the Interstate 80 interchange, which will connect Alice’s Road in Waukee and 105th Street in West Des Moines.
