Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Council Bluffs looks to replace Flock cameras with another company at mayor's request (nonpareilonline.com) — Waukee has decided to stop using Flock automated license plate reader cameras, joining Indianola as central Iowa communities stepping away from the technology amid broader debates over data privacy. As Council Bluffs' mayor now pushes to replace Flock with another vendor, state lawmakers are also weighing new guardrails on how law enforcement uses these surveillance tools.
• 1 injured in blaze at De Soto auto salvage yard (dailydispatch.com) — Waukee's professional firefighters were among several departments called to battle a massive blaze Wednesday morning at Hawkeye Auto Salvage south of De Soto, where one person was injured and taken to a hospital. Volunteer crews from surrounding towns joined Waukee in containing the fire, which burned intensely because of oils and chemicals stored on-site, but no firefighters were hurt.
• Cael Winter, Kade Pieper give Iowa 2 great center options (press-citizen.com) — A former Waukee Northwest High School standout, walk-on lineman Cael Winter is pushing for a starting role on Iowa's offensive line this fall, competing with All-American Kade Pieper at center and guard. His remarkable comeback from life-threatening illness and rapid development have made him one of the biggest stories of Hawkeye preseason camp, giving Waukee fans a direct rooting interest.
