The Village at Legacy Pointe Resident, Margaret George, Celebrates 101st Birthday
Food Donations “to Help Each Other Out”
Waukee, Iowa (Feb. 21, 2013) –– On Wednesday, February 20, The Village at Legacy Pointe retirement community of Waukee resident, Margaret George, will celebrate her 101 birthday without traditional birthday cards, but with 101 food donations collected and sent to the Waukee Food Bank.
George, who has trouble seeing small print and reading cards, thought of the donation idea in lieu of traditional birthday cards because fellow Legacy Pointe resident, Marlin Docter, takes a delivery of donated items to the Waukee Food Bank every Wednesday. When asked about her inspiration she simply replied, “We all just have to help each other out.” She also offers sage advice on how to not only live to age 101, but to thrive as well. “Take life one day at a time and remember that laughter really is the best medicine. I try to find something to laugh about every day, and I don’t worry because there is nothing to worry about!”
The 101 food donations will be sent to the Waukee Food Bank on Feb. 20.
“Our organization serves an average of 100 families each month and we couldn’t do it without the help of wonderful people like Mrs. George and Mr. Docter. They are such a blessing and inspiration to us all,” stated Melissa Stimple, Director of the Food Pantry.
Margaret George, who has called Legacy Pointe home since 2007, says her favorite thing about the community is the friendliness. She also added that she plans to organize another food drive for her 102nd birthday next year.
