Auditions Coming Up for Middle School Version of 'Guys and Dolls Jr.'

The Waukee Music and Drama Departments will hold auditions later this month for the seventh-grade musical, Guys and Dolls Jr.

All seventh-graders from both South Middle School and Waukee Middle School may be a part of the April 18 and 19 production, either on stage in a character role or as a member of the chorus or behind the scenes as a member of the stage crew.

This classic American musical has a cast of colorful characters who meet in New York City in the 1930s. It includes such well-known songs as “A Bushel and a Peck” and “Luck Be a Lady.”

Auditions for lead roles will be on Feb. 26 from 3 to 4:45 p.m. at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School. Actors will need to bring their permission form to Shelly Schaeufele or Sarah. Schaefer at WMS and Jennifer Ghelf or Lynnae Lathrop at SMS by Feb. 22. Students will be required to be at the entire audition time slot on the 26th. There will also be a parent meeting at 4:45 – 5 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Students can learn the audition songs on by going to Schaeufele’s blog and clicking on “7th Grade Musical.” Those who want to be in the chorus only will not need to audition, but will need to have their permission slip turned in by Feb. 22, as well.

The first full cast rehearsal will be on Friday, March 1. Early rehearsals will be held at WMS, with students being bused from South Middle School.
