Up, Up and Away

The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee and Vintage Hills of Indianola retirement communities go to National Balloon Classic

Balloons at The National Balloon Classic can be seen for miles, but the best views are right up close, next to the action, which is exactly where several residents from The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee and Vintage Hills of Indianola found themselves on the evening of July 31.

The two retirement communities pulled their buses to the edge of the field so residents could enjoy a wonderful view. The special location was appreciated by all, including Betty Lopeman, a resident at The Village at Legacy Pointe, who said "It was the perfect trip, and we had the best seats in the house!"

“I love that we can do interesting new things, and it was even better we got to meet some new people!” said LaVonne Davis, also a resident at The Village at Legacy Pointe. Whether or not they had previously been to the Classic, everyone enjoyed the sights and new friendships were made.

“I remember being here years ago, but I forgot how beautiful the sky is when it’s filled with balloons,” said Prim Jackson, a resident at Vintage Hills of Indianola.

The residents saw not only the beauty of the balloons, but all the effort balloonists put in. “It takes a lot of work to get one of those balloons in the air!” said Vintage Hills resident Pat Skarin.

The group appreciates that the Classic organizers allowed them to get so close and is thankful to the volunteers and balloonists that stopped by the buses to answer questions. What an evening!
