Brian Harrison Announces Candidacy for Waukee City Council

Waukee resident Brian Harrison on Monday announced his campaign to run for Waukee City Council.

His news release said he plans to focus on maintaining the efficiency of city government, working with city leaders and staff to proactively plan for continued growth, ensuring that taxpayer money is used responsibly and maximizing a family focused community.

“My wife and I have been blessed to raise our three children in this great community,” Harrison said. “It is an important time in Waukee’s development and I’m excited for the opportunity to help build a brighter future for our city and our families.”

Harrison works for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, but also has a record of public service. He currently is a member of the Waukee Parks and Recreation Board, and he served as a volunteer firefighter in West Des Moines.

“On the city council, I’ll work to make sure our city government is accountable to our citizens, spend our tax dollars wisely and focus on maintaining a safe and prosperous city for all Waukee residents,” said Harrison

Harrison was born in Urbandale, raised in West Des Moines and earned his bachelor’s degree in political studies with an emphasis in pre-law from Grand View College. Harrison and his wife, Pam, have three children, Taylor, Parker and Clark and are active members of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee.

Voters will choose three council members this fall. The seats held by Shane Blanchard, Mike Watts and Isaiah McGee will all be on the ballot; Blanchard has already announced his plans to seek re-election.

The deadline to submit candidacy papers is Thursday, Sept. 19, by 5 p.m. at Waukee City Hall. City elections will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5.
