Failure to Clear Frost Off Windshield Leads to Crash: Waukee Police Blotter

March 5

A vehicle driven by Claire Kirk of Clive rear-ended a vehicle driven by Connor Wachter of Clive, which was westbound in the 500 block of Southeast University Avenue. The impact pushed Wachter's vehicle into a westbound vehicle driven by Melinda McBratney of West Lafayette, IN. Kirk was cited for failure to stop within an assured, clear distance. Total damage was estimated at $3,100.

Edward Hoffman of the 2100 block of Southeast Florence Drive reported a case of identity theft.

March 6

A vehicle driven by Steven Peterson of Clive was eastbound on Southeast University Avenue when he swerved to miss a vehicle and struck a vehicle driven by Brittany Carty of West Des Moines. Peterson's vehicle turned left on Westwood Drive and was struck by a vehicle drive by Lyle Geiger of North English. Peterson was cited for careless driving. Damage was estimated at $6,000.

March 7

Pedro Cortes, 21, of Waukee was charged in the 800 block of Collins Drive with unlawful possession of prescription drugs, possesion of synthetic cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

March 8

Mason Russell of Waukee was cited for driving with an obstructed view caused by frost on his windshield after his vehicle struck a parked vehicle in a parking lot at 905 Warrior Lane. Damage was estimated at $2,700. 

March 9

A vehicle driven by Albert Thayer of Altoona was eastbound on Hickman Road and struck a vehicle driven by Darrell Kinney of Waukee as Thayer turned right onto Alice's Road. Damage was estimated at $15,000.

March 10

Jennifer Carney reported a burglary to a residence in the first block of Highland Drive. 

A motorcycle driven by Cody Anderson of Creston was westbound in the 1200 block of Hickman Road when an unknown vehicle swerved in front of Anderson, causing him to lose control and crash. Damage estimated at $500.

March 11

Coty Johnston, 24, of Waukee was arrested in the 1300 block of Southeast University Avenue and charged with OWI.
