Four Seeking Three Seats on Waukee City Council in Nov. 5 City Election

Two incumbents have said they’ll seek re-election to the Waukee City Council and two newcomers have emerged for three seats open in the Nov. 5 municipal election.

Council members Shane Blanchard and Mike Watts have said they plan to run and Blanchard has returned his nomination papers, making his candidacy official, the Des Moines Register reports.

The other two announced candidates are Brian Harrison, a current parks board member and an Iowa Department of Agriculture employee, and Rick Peterson, a 2013 Waukee Leadership Institute graduate who works as an account manager at Otsuka America Pharmaceutical Inc.

Harrison is 40 and Peterson is 37.

Blanchard, 39, works in the special finance division at Shottenkirk Chevrolet and served on the city’s parks board before being elected to the council in 2009.

Watts, 47, served one term on the council before he was beaten in a 2003 re-election bid, and then in 2005 rejoined the council, acting as a liaison for several groups, inlcuding the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas County Local Housing Trust Fund.
