Here's What Waukee Says About a School Start Date
Read what Waukee Patch readers have to say about the best start date for school. And share your views.

Waukee readers all seem to have an opinion -- and no two are the same -- about when students should start the next school year.

In 2012, all but eight school districts started their first day of school during the month of August after receiving a state waiver, according to a recent report in the Des Moines Register. Tourism officials have asked state leaders to tighten restrictions on the waiver process. The state suggested Aug. 20 as a compromise start date.Patch asked readers to share their views, and you delivered. Here's a sampling of comments from Waukee.Patch.com and the Waukee Patch Facebook page.

State fair dates and the tourism industry should have nothing to do with the decision. -- David LeonardLate August or post Labor Day -- Jaime Sandula-Jorstad
August 14th is way too early -- Tom Turcotte
After Labor Day -- Sherrill King Ress
