Hy-Vee Files for Permit to Build Convenience Store; Still No Paperwork on Grocery Store

City officials gave Hy-Vee a year's extension on its plans to build a grocery store in Waukee. No word yet on when construction could start.

Hy-Vee recently filed for a building permit with the city of Waukee to construct a convenience store near the intersection of Hickman Road and Alice’s Road, the Des Moines Register reported.

The company has not yet filed for a building permit on the grocery store portion of the project, the newspaper said.

Construction on the convenience store is expected to begin sometime this spring.

The Waukee City Council approved a site plan for the grocery store, convenience store and car wash in February of 2011, the Register said. Although construction was anticipated to begin in the spring of 2011, Hy-Vee never filed for a building permit.

In February of 2012, the Waukee City Council voted to extend Hy-Vee’s site plan for one year, the newspaper said.

City Administrator Jeff Kooistra told the Register he did not know when a building permit would be filed for the grocery store or when construction would begin on that portion of the project.
