ICYMI: Waukee Boys Lose Heartbreaker to Lincoln, No Trip to State Tourney

A one-point loss in overtime keeps the Warriors from a repeat trip to the state basketball tournament.

The Des Moines Lincoln Railsplitters' 41-40 overtime win Monday at the Waukee Fieldhouse crushed the Warriors' hopes for a repeat trip to the boys' Class 4-A state basketball tournament.

Lincoln had lost to Waukee 75-62 loss just two weeks earlier.

“They did a good job scoring on those opportunities the first times they had them,” Waukee coach Justin Ohl told the Des Moines Register. “When you turn it over and miss free throws, you kind of get what you deserve.”

Waukee's Michael Jacobson finished the game with 17 points and eight rebounds, but Waukee’s offense struggled with consistency and outside shooting, the Register said.

The Warriors (11-11) qualified for the 2012 state tournament with a senior-led group.

“We didn’t play well,” Ohl told the newspaper. “That’s a credit to Lincoln. They took things away and we didn’t adjust to it.”
