It's Not Too Soon to Sign Kids Up for Safety City Summer Courses

The popular summer program teaches incoming kindergarten kids how to safely cross the street, bus rules, how to use 911, bike safety and more.

Have you signed up for the Waukee Police Department's Safety City for fall 2013 kindergarten students?

Safety City classes will be held June 10-14, June 17-21 and June 24-June 28 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Classes will be held at Waukee Middle School at 905 Warrior Lane in Waukee. Final signup is May 10, however most classes may be full by that time. Click here to download the registration form.

  • Pedestrian Rules
  • Street Crossing
  • Stop Lights
  • Waukee Safe House
  • Window Safety
  • Poisons and Drug Abuse
  • Bus Rules
  • 911 
  • Fire Department
  • Respect for Authority
  • Seatbelts
  • Bike Safety

Each student will receive a bicycle helmet and T-shirt. Classes will visit the Waukee Police and Fire Department for tours, traveling on school buses.

A miniature city will be used to teach students correct street crossing techniques using tricycles (as vehicles) and by walking.

Students will learn about safety and have much one-on-one contact with volunteers during this weekly course. There will also be a short graduation ceremony at the end of the class for parents to attend.

We look forward to this program educating our pre-kindergarten students to prepare them for obstacles they will meet both on the streets and in the schools.
