Next Week Marks Final Public Meeting on Proposed Dallas County Jail, Administration Building

Want to learn more about the proposed $16.85 million referendum needed to finance the cost of building a county administration and law enforcement facility?

A public meeting will be held next week at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the Waukee School District Office, 560 SE University.

This is the final public meeting before the bond goes before voters on Aug. 6.

Officials say there is a need for the new facility because the growing county is running out of room, and a new office building and jail are needed. The move would give the court system more space in the existing courthouse.

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors and Jerry Purdy with Design Alliance, Inc., a Waukee-based design firm, are heading the project. They estimate the project will cost $22 million for a county administration, jail and jail administration facility. 

It will also pay for work to re-purpose current county offices at 902 Court, 907 Court, 810 Court and 201 Nile Kinnick, according to the Dallas County News.

The proposed 91,150 square-foot facility will hold the treasurer, recorder, assessor, veterans affairs, board of supervisors, human resources, auditor, operations administration, IT and sheriff/jail administration staff, the newspaper reported. Planning and development, environmental health and human services will remain in downtown Adel.
