UPDATE: All Waukee City Streets Have Been Plowed; Crews to Resume Work at 4 A.M.

Update: 3:10 p.m.

The Waukee Public Works Department says all of the city's primary road are cleared and wet, all secondary/residential streets have been cleared.

Crews are going home for the day and will be back at work at 4 a.m. Thursday morning to push snowpiles back from curbs and clear out cul-de-sacs and corners.

The National Weather Service is warning all Iowans to bundle up and be aware of the hazards created by snow blowing across roads.

The service issued a statment this afternoon that says, in part: "Although the accumulating snowfall is complete, strong northwest winds at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to near 40 mph will continue to cause significants blowing and drifting of snow during the rest of the afternoon. Visibility at times may be reduced to less than a mile through 5 p.m."

Also, both Dallas and Polk counties are in a hazardous weather outlook message because of blowing snow through the evening. The Weather Service adds that Thursday into Friday the area faces bitterly cold wind chill values.

Wind chills will likely fall as low as 10 to 20 below zero tonight, says KCCI.com.

In case you didn't get the alert from the schools, the bad weather has canceled classes in the Waukee School District Tuesday.

The district generally tries to make a decision by 5 a.m., but today the call came a bit later.

Superintendent David Wilkerson said on Twitter: "Tough decision this a.m. But no school in Waukee today, Jan 30. Conditions supposed to get worse over next 2 hrs and we are going to be safe."

If you need to go outside, bundle up. The National Weather Service says wind chill values as low as 5 are in the forecast today. Snow should end around 9 a.m., but areas of blowing snow could make travel difficult until noon. 

Is the city's parking ban active? The city of Waukee's emergency parking ban for snow removal went into an effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, and remain in an effect until 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, according to the city's website. The parking ban applies to all city streets.
