A regional chain of convenience stores based in West Des Moines will stop taking personal checks beginning July 1.
Kum & Go, which has multiple locations in Waukee and throughout Iowa communities, said going paperless speeds up customer service, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reported.
Do you still use personal checks? If you’re a business, do you still accept them? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Tell us below in the comments.
“We find that checks result in slower customer service and they also lead to greater complexity in our stores,” Kum & Go spokeswoman Megan Elfers said.
Check-paying customers represent only about 1 percent of the chain’s customers, but it will be a “difficult transition for them,” Elfers acknowledged.
Waukee's Kum & Go stores are located at 350 S.E. University Ave., 85 Fourth St., and 400 Prairie Bluff Drive.
