Rick Peterson Announces Candidacy for Waukee City Council

Rick Peterson of Waukee has announced he is a candidate for Waukee City Council. His statement follows:

"It is with great enthusiasm that I announce my candidacy for the Waukee City Council.  This is an exciting time to be a resident of Waukee, and I want to ensure that we continue the prosperous growth of our city in a strategic and responsible manner.  As a member of the City Council, I will be a steward of the city’s finances and a strong advocate for insightful commercial development.  My goal is to ensure that Waukee continues to be a family-centric community.  Our neighborhoods are the key to our good living; they are what set the city of Waukee apart from other metro suburbs.

"I am also committed to ensuring the city’s public safety resources stay in step with the growth of the community.  As a recent victim of credit card theft, I saw first-hand the effectiveness and dedication of our Waukee Police Department.   It is important that our public safety resources maintain that same level of quality and integrity for our rapidly growing community.

"In addition to my responsibilities as an Account Manager with Otsuka, an international healthcare firm, I have become very involved with our community.  In 2012-13, I participated in the Waukee Leadership Institute.  Upon graduation, I was presented with the President’s Award for exemplary leadership and outstanding contribution to the Waukee Leadership Institute class.  I am currently serving on the Institute’s Executive Board of Directors, in addition to leading “Amp It Up,” the group responsible for designing and fundraising for an amphitheater at Centennial Park. 

"I was born and raised in Marshalltown and am a graduate of Iowa State University.  Shortly after I moved to Des Moines, I met my future wife Jenny (a Hawkeye).  We married in 2003 and in 2009, along with our two sons, we moved to Waukee.  We choose Waukee because of its growth as a community, emerging identity, and excellent schools.  We are absolutely thrilled to call the city of Waukee our home.  More importantly, we are ecstatic to be a part of this strong neighborhood-based community.  It should be no surprise that CNN recently ranked Waukee as one of the "Best Places to Live."

"We are all stakeholders in the direction our community takes. I look forward to serving the needs of and representing all of the citizens of Waukee in charting that direction.  I’m asking for your vote on November 5th."
