The Health Insurance Marketplace directs uninsured and underinsured individuals to Iowa's health insurance companies. They will be able to shop for the best insurance coverage specific to their needs. They can visit http://marketplace.cms.gov/ to enroll and chose from 4 levels of insurance plans. With one application , individuals can see all their options and enroll after October 1.
Consumers can now accurately compare different health insurance plans offered in Iowa. For the first time, coverage details from different health insurance plans have to use the same format with the same language.
No one can be denied health insurance because of a pre-existing medical condition. People with pre-existing conditions cannot be forced to pay unreasonable high premiums for private coverage by insureres. The law also limits insurers' ability to impose age-related premium increases for private coverage.
