Sun Blinds Driver Causing Car Crash: Waukee Police Blotter

Jan. 13

Lucy Comer of Waukee reported a theft in the 800 block of Spruce Street. Police said that while the case is under investigation the items taken cannot be released.

Jan. 14

A vehicle driven by Josuha Jost of 35 Aidan Street, Waukee, was eastbound in the 100 block of Aidan Street when he was blinded by the sun. Jost's vehicle struck a legally parked vehicle. Damage was estimated at $5,500.

A 16-year-old boy from Waukee was arrested at the intersection of Southeast University Avenue and Southeast Brick Drive and charged with driving while suspended and failure to use a seatbelt.

Jan. 15

A vehicle driven by Leticia Williams of 5509 Aurora Ave., Des Moines, was eastbound in the 900 block of Hickman Road when a vehicle driven by Amy Leonard of 13130 Adams St., Des Moines, pulled out of a driveway along Hickman. Police said Leonard's vehicle struck Williams' vehicle. Damage was estimated at $2,000. Leonard was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn.

A vehicle driven by Jenna Carey of 865 Cedar St., Waukee, was westbound on Southeast University Avenue when an eastbound vehicle driven by Emily Swinger of 135 S.E. Westgate Drive, Waukee, attempted to turn left onto Alice's Road. Police said Swinger's vehicle was struck by Carey's vehicle. Damage was estimated at $9,000. Swinger was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn.
