The Great Candy Crush

Everyone seems to be playing "Candy Crush" these days, and I'm guilty of this sugar addiction. But I don't think that's the sugar  Citizens for Health was referring to when they released, “Americans Consuming Less Sugar as Obesity Rate Soars; Increased High Fructose Corn Syrup Consumption Mirrors Obesity Epidemic."

The article states that obesity rates in the United States are increasing while sugar consumption is on the decline. The article blames Americans' use of high-fructose corn syrup.

Breitbart News’ Lisa De Pasquale notes that there are holes in the story. De Pasquale writes, "It doesn't take much digging to learn that [Citizens for Health] has received more than half its funding from the Sugar Association.  It then comes to no surprise who "Citizens for Health" blames for growing obesity."

The sugar industry isn't hurting. After all, it gets help from Uncle Sam and John Q. Public - you and me - American taxpayers. I don't know about you, but I believe that there's a better use for my tax dollars than smearing open competition.

As the Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney notes, the “sugar industry would wither without big government.” Our tax dollars are funding an industry who funds a group that makes false claims about their competition. It's a sweet deal for the sugar industry, but I don't like the taste. I'll stick to crushing candy on the computer, not the competition.
