Waukee Area Arts Council Presents Local Actors in 'A Christmas Carol'

Performance of the Charles Dickens classic about Ebenezer Scrooge and his Christmas conversion are set for Dec. 8 and 9 at ArtsCentral in Waukee.

A reader’s theatre version of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic "A Christmas Carol" will be presented with a local cast, according to a news release from the Waukee Area Arts Council.

The event is being sponsored by Shottenkirk Chevrolet.

"A Christmas Carol" will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in ArtsCentral, 405 Maple St. in Waukee.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and are available at Waukee Hardware or at the door based on availability, according to a news release from the arts council.

Sarah Schaefer, Waukee Middle School theater/drama instructor, is directing "A Christmas Carol." The script was adapted by Lorenzo Sandoval, artistic director of the Iowa Shakespeare Experience.

“I am excited about having the opportunity to bring together such a diverse and talented group of people for this holiday event,” said Schaefer in the news release. “Our cast includes people who haven't ever been on stage, children and several people who are currently working on local films. Scrooge, Marley, Tiny Tim and the others will leave our audience with plenty of holiday spirit.”

The cast includes a few surprises: Ebenezer Scrooge - City Councilman Shane Blanchard; Dickens - Artistic Director of the Iowa Shakespeare Experience Lorenzo Sandoval; Merchant/Gentleman - Waukee Hardware owner Geoff Warmouth; Merchant/Lady - Waukee Area Arts Council Board President Karen Dluhos; Waukee teachers Alex Raiche, Jacki Pleggenkuhle and Dale Sandquist are also cast members and many other recognizable faces are in the cast.
