Waukee Begins Construction on Sewer Project Tied to Alice's Road Corridor

Work has begun on the Fox Creek sewer project, the first phase of the Alice's Road development. The city says the project will serve 600 acres that is slated for a mix of commercial, office and residential use.

City of Waukee News Release:

The City of Waukee announces that construction has begun on the Alice’s Road corridor Fox Creek sewer project. This project will be the first phase of the Alice’s Road corridor development and will provide necessary capacity to service 600 acres intended to be developed with a mixture of commercial, office and residential uses.

The City Council voted during the Nov. 19 council meeting to award a contract to S.M. Hentges & Sons, Inc. from Jordan, MN, according to the news release.

The project has begun and will be tentatively completed in the spring of 2013. S.M Hentges & Sons, Inc. bid for the project in an open public bidding process and submitted a bid of $2.16 million to complete the project; the engineering estimate for the project was $3.5 million, the city's release said.

The mayor and council along with staff are pleased with the beginning of this project. Mayor Bill Peard said “the project will begin to lay the groundwork for the long term development of the Alice’s Road Corridor, which is poised to become one of the premier economic development areas in the Des Moines metro.”

Additionally, the start of this project signifies the implementation of economic development plans that have been in the works for for over ten years.

Business leaders and land owners within Waukee are excited for this project, the city said. Gerry Neugent with Knapp Properties said in the release, “As an owner of property within the Corridor, I am very pleased to see the city move forward on the construction of the sewer for the Alice’s Road Corridor. This project is the first of a series of projects that will allow us to begin to execute development within the Corridor.”
