Waukee Council Sells Bonds to Pay for Sewer Project

The money will pay for a project to extend sewer service to an area of housing construction near North Little Walnut Creek Drive and Warrior Lane.

The Waukee City Council on Monday unanimously approved a bid from Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee, Wis., charging a 2.1 percent interest rate for the sale of 11-year capital loan notes, reports the Dallas County News.

The money will pay for the construction of the Little Walnut Creek sewer lift station.

“We’ve actually pretty much refinanced,” Director of Finance Linda Burkhart told the newspaper. “We were able to get advanced refunding back in June, so that’s really something we don’t have to be worried about.”

The lift station will be built at the intersection of North Little Walnut Creek Drive and Warrior Lane. The system will be constructed so sewage will flow south to Waukee’s water treatment facility, providing sewage for prospective houses in the area.

In January the council approved construction contract for the sewer lift station, the Des Moines Register reported. The city awarded the contract for $834,343 to Correll Contractor Inc. of West Des Moines.

Waukee has experienced steady housing growth of about 130 to 150 new houses a year in the past for years, said interim City Administrator Brad Deets.

Developers such as Jerry’s Homes have plans to build more homes in Waukee, Deets told the newspaper, but to proceed, a lift station is needed to bring sewer service to the area in question.
