Waukee Dance Squad Places Seventh at National Championships
The varsity dance team was among nearly 80 teams from around the country to compete earlier this month at Walt Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex. Next up: Performing at the Iowa High School girls' basketball tournament.

In early February, Waukee High School’s varsity dance team added a Top 10 placement at the UDA National Dance Team Championships to their list of accomplishments. Competing at Walt Disneyworld’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, the team faced 77 of the country’s best dance teams and placed seventh.
The 16-member team practices about seven hours a week. Together, these athletes have logged more than 4,000 hours of training time since June.

“The girls on the team have worked very hard for this victory,” says Stephanie Guiter, the team’s coach since 2006. “We set a goal to break into the Top 10 at Nationals this year, and blew that goal away. These dancers are dedicated team players with years of experience – and they get along really well. I think the selfless commitment to a common goal has been key to our success.”
On Feb. 28, the team will perform at Wells Fargo Arena during halftime of the 3:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. Girls’ State Basketball Tournament games.

The team’s final performance, their annual spring show, will take place on Saturday, March 30 at 6 p.m. in the Waukee Fieldhouse. The spring show is open to the public; tickets are available at the door.
Students in kindergarten through seventh grade can participate in a dance clinic that morning and perform with the team during the spring show. For more information, click here.
