Waukee Elementary School Awarded $2,000 Grant

Shuler Elementary School in Clive, part of the Waukee school district, has been awarded a $2,000 Build with Bags grant.

According to the Des Moines Register, Shuler will receive the grant to obtain three new park benches and two planters made from recycled plastic. The plastic bag recycling program is led by Iowa grocers.

A total of 24 applications were submitted. Applications were evaluated based on criteria that included a statement of need for the grant and the community’s own plastic bag recycling efforts, the Register reported.

Among other criteria, store director Jim Carney of the Hy-Vee Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines wrote a letter of support on behalf of Shuler Elementary.
