Waukee Police Blotter: Charges Filed in Several Car Crashes

Police responded to several car accidents in the past week. Check out today's Waukee Police reports.

Dec. 5

A vehicle driven by Timon Bell of Urbandale struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Robert Witcher of Urbandale at the intersection of Hickman Road and Alice's Road as Witcher was slowing for a stop light. The impact pushed Witcher's vehicle into a vehicle driven by Amanda Westphal of Waukee. Bell was cited for failure to failure to stop in an assured clear distance, failure to have proof of insurance and operating a non-registered vehicle. Damage was estimated at $4,700.

Dec. 7

Three vehicles were stopped on Hickman Road at the intersection with Alice's Road waiting for the light to change. When the light turned green, a vehicle driven by Brian Maro of West Des Moines remained stopped for an emergency vehicle. It was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Joseph Cavanaugh of Urbandale, pushing Maro's vehicle into a vehicle driven by Tara Gilson of Panora. Vehicle damage was estimated at $1,400. Cavanaugh was cited for unsafe starting of a stopped vehicle.

A vehicle driven by Michele Burns of Urbandale was attempting to make a left turn in the 1100 block of Southeast Brick Drive. Police said a vehicle driven by Nicole Miller of Clive struck the rear corner of Burns' vehicle; damage was estimated at $1,600. 

Dec. 9

A vehicle driven by Marcia Scharf of Grimes was pulling into a parking space in the 1000 block of Hickman Road when police said it struck a door on a parked vehicle. Damage is estimated at $400.
