Waukee Public Works Removing Tree Debris Through August 17

Public Works crews will remove tree debris which was left by Monday’s severe storm now through Monday, Aug. 17. Tree debris must be placed with the ’public right-of-way’ in order to be collected. The right-of-way is the grassy area between the back of the curb and the front of the sidewalk. Debris not placed within the right-of-way will not be removed.

Please review other requirements to ensure your tree debris is picked up:

• Cut to lengths of 10 feet or less; there is not a maximum diameter limit at this time
• Place/pile material parallel to the curb of the street
• Pile debris so as not to block fire hydrants, mailboxes or utility boxes
• Do not block the site triangle at intersections; keep debris far enough back to keep intersections clear
• The City is only collecting tree debris; any garden or building debris will not be picked up. It will be the homeowner’s responsibility to dispose of any garden or building debris.
• Properly sort the debris to ensure there is no cross contamination between material to allow for efficient processing.
• Do not place tree debris in containers used for yard waste; this slows the collection process for City staff.
• Tree debris removed by a contractor is not to be piled in the right-of-way. Since the contractor is hired to remove and dispose of the downed tree/limbs, they are to haul the debris away as well.
• No contractors will be allowed to dump tree debris at the City’s collection site.
• All tree debris should be in the right-of-way no later than Monday, Aug. 17 at 7 a.m. After Monday, the City will stop collection of tree debris.
• The dump site near the water tower on 6th Street will continue to be available to those residents who have the means to haul their own debris. At a future date, an announcement will be made when this site is closed.
