Waukee School Board to Have At Least Three New Members in Fall

Only one of four Waukee school board members whose terms are up for election this fall plans to seek re-election in September, the Des Moines Register reports.
The seven-member board sets policy for a district that draws students from Waukee as well as parts of Clive, Urbandale and West Des Moines. The Register says only incumbent Mary Scheve plans to seek re-election. Board members Dave Duncan, Tracy Lepeltak and Russ Wiesley all plan to leave the board.
Candidates can file paperwork to run for school board through Aug. 1. Nomination papers that have been accepted for filing by must be delivered to the county auditor on Friday, Aug. 2, by 5 p.m., according to the school district website.

The auditor cannot accept nomination papers earlier than Aug. 2 because they are required to be available for public inspection at the school office during the filing period, the district said. School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least one percent of the qualified electors of the district or 50 electors, whichever is less, but at least 10 signatures.
Two people had filed paperwork as of late last week to be candidates in the election, the Register said.
