Waukee School Students Ringing Bells for Salvation Army
The Waukee Community School District has provided a roster of bell-ringers for the Salvation Army Red Kettle located inside the Waukee Fareway grocery store.
Students from the Waukee school district are staffing the Salvation Army's Red Kettle at the Waukee Fareway store through Dec. 23 to spread holiday cheer.
Waukee High School student Adam Novak said, “It’s for a good cause and we can use the time here to go towards our silver chord program.”
Novak, who will graduate in 2014, said Waukee's Silver Cord program helps students working volunteer hours in order to earn a silver cord to wear during graduation.

"We’re working tonight for two hours, then two other kids will come in. It’s not bad working, knowing it goes to a good cause makes it worth it,” Novak said on a recent shift at the kettle.
Novak was working with fellow Waukee High School student John Brimeyer.

Brimeyer said, “Working isn’t as bad as you think. People are really nice and donate money. It’s all for a good cause.”
Zaven Boswell, an employee at the Waukee Fareway store, says the bell-ringers don’t just stand around and ring the bell, they get creative with their fundraising.
“We’ve had some people sing Christmas carols and play the guitar, it’s very entertaining,” Boswell said. “Lots of people donate here because it’s such a good cause.”
