Waukee Schools Open Preschool Enrollment
Parents in the Waukee school district can now register their kids for preschool online, rather than having to stop in to the district office to sign up.

Registration began today for the Waukee school district's community preschool. Parents can go to the district website to sign up their kids for sessions in the 2013-14 school year.
Options include a 3-year-old morning class that meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Kids must be 3 by Sept. 15, 2013, to be registered; the cost is $150 a month.
A 4-year-old afternoon class meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Children must be 4 by Sept. 15, 2013, to be registered. The cost is $150 a month, according to the district website.

Families will receive calls this week confirming their registration, but because a new elementary opens in the fall and teachers have yet to be hired, schools won't be assigned until March.
Here's the process, via the school district website:

Parents will not come to the District Office for enrollment. Instead, interested families will enroll online. Enrollment will begin promptly at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. That morning parents will go to the Waukee School’s website www.waukee.k12.ia.us, where there will be a graphic link on the front page of the website.
-
Parents will then click on the “here” link at the top of the page. The link will say: To begin Waukee Community Preschool Enrollment 2013-14 click here.
As is the case every year, there will be very few 4-year-old (PM) slots since the current 3-year-olds will have the opportunity to roll forward to a PM slot for the fall of 2013. There may be, for example, only six or seven 4-year-old slots for the fall. As for 3-year-old (AM) slots, there may be 21 to 28 slots depending on how many preschool teachers are on staff in the fall.
As each family completes the online registration process, each registration will be electronically date-and-time stamped. Both 3- and 4-year-old slots will be filled based on these stamps. For example, if there are 21 three-year-old slots available, the first 21 complete enrollments will be offered a slot. The same system will apply for 4-year-old slots. (NOTE: The online enrollment information must be completely filled out for an application to be considered. Applications with missing information will not be considered.)
During the week of Dec. 11-14, 2012 the Student Services Administrative Assistant will call all families to whom a slot will be offered confirming that they will have a preschool slot for 2013-14. However the elementary school the child will attend will not be determined at that time. Due to a new elementary school opening in the fall of 2013, and due to the fact the number of preschool teachers will not be determined until later in the spring, attendance centers will not be assigned until March 2013. At that time, the Assistant will contact the families who have received a slot for 2013-14 and will then inform those families from which buildings they may choose. The first family on the date-and-time stamp list will choose which school their child will attend. As families are called, per the date-and-time stamp order, slots and buildings will be offered accordingly.
If a family does not receive a phone call in December, that family did not receive a slot. However, all families will remain on the date-and-time stamp list, as that date-and-time stamp list serves as the waiting list in the event openings should occur, later in the spring or summer.
SUMMARY: Families, based on the electronic enrollment process, who will be offered a preschool slot will receive two phone calls: the first in December letting them know they have a slot, and one in March letting them know from which schools they may chose. As part of the December call, families will be informed that they have three business days in which to submit the following to the District Office ensuring the slot is reserved:
-
Proof of Residency:
-
