Waukee Swimmers Finish the Year in Eighth Place, Coach Honored

The Waukee Warrior boys' swim team finished the season with a top 10 finish in the state meet. Coach of the District Award winner Daniel Briggs looks back on the strong season.

This year's squad did an outstanding job from start to finish! They had a great dual meet record, only losing to teams that were ranked in the top 5 (6-3) Dowling, Johnston and Valley.

The Warriors won the Husky-Bear Invite, Boone Invite, and the SE Polk Invite, as well as notching a runnerup finish at the Johnston Invite.

The boys had a great showing at the first JV Divisional meet with numerous time drops and were crowned champions. The varsity had a very respectable 5th place finish at the conference meet, as well as a runnerup finish to Dowling at Districts. A top ten finish at the state meet is incredible, especially in just our third year.

Many of the guys went into the meet fully tapered to get into state. They did a very fine job maintaining their times, as well as placing higher in nearly every individual event. We had 4 events place on the podium, which is always an added bonus to the end of the season.

Jack and Jordan worked very hard throughout the season and performed very well at the state meet. I could not be happier with our results form this year and the improvement the team continues to make. The record board nearly always changes over each year and this one is no exception with eight of the eleven events with a new mark posted this season. Finishing the year at a power ranking of 1,580 points and 8th place overall topped off a great season and will be a very tough one to top in the future!

Coach Zorn and I were honored to receive the Coach of the District Award, but owe this to our swimmers and their families!
