What Are the Mayor and Council's Top Priorities for 2013-14?

Alice's Road isn't the only major street in Waukee that will receive attention this year as city leaders set their top priorities.

Members of the Waukee City Council approved a slate of top priorities at the May 7 council meeting.

These priorities are the actions that will be taken over the next 12 months to bring the community vision to fruition. Both the Community Vision and 2013-2014 City Council Priorities were developed during a strategic planning session held on April 22.

The Mayor and City Council worked to develop a list of 15 top City Council Priorities by brainstorming outstanding projects and community needs and then voting to reach consensus on the top 15 initiatives.

Mayor Bill Peard said he was "pleased with the work that both the City Council and city staff have put into the strategic planning process. The preparation work now will serve dividends for the future of Waukee."

Top Council Priorities for 2013-14

1. Prepare an action plan for the development of the Alice’s Road Corridor

2. Establish the Community and Economic Development Department

3. Write a short term and long term plan for sports fields

4. Create a plan for the development of the Hickman Corridor

5. Analyze the competitiveness impact of Waukee’s development costs

6. Develop a strategy to improve the existing parks

7. Improve the operating and capital improvement budgeting process

8. Prepare a plan to address future staffing needs

9. Write a strategy to enhance Waukee’s regional presence

10. Plan for the future change in the Police Department leadership

11. Review and update the City organization’s operational policies
