What Valentine's Day Gifts Can You Find in Waukee?

No pressure, but Valentine's Day rolls around in less than 48 hours. If you hate the malls and want to find a thoughtful gift close to home, several Waukee businesses have suggestions on what might please the special person in your life.

Schade Creek Winery

Valentine’s Day celebrates people finding their soulmates. 

So a bottle of Soulmates wine from in Waukee might be the perfect way to say “be mine” on Valentine’s Day. The winery created the semi-sweet vintage two years ago for weddings, but it’s available year-round and great for Valentine’s Day, too, says Jana Schade of the winery.

On the back of each bottle is a poem in tribute to her late parents and the love of her mother-in-law’s life. It reads:

Jane & Friends Salon

Guys can drop by Monday or Tuesday to pick up gift certificates for manicures and pedicures — a favorite pampering gift for many women.

A manicure costs $22 and a pedicure is $40, said Mary Howard, a stylist at the salon. Women who are regular clients there will have favorite services the staff can recommend as a gift, too.

The holidays are a popular time for gift certificates, and the salon’s staff expect to see guys popping in this week to buy for their wives, girlfriends, and mothers.

 Swedish or deep-tissue massage, reflexology to relieve stress in your feet and calves — they're all ways to relax.

offers gift certificates for various massage packages; customers can pick them up Monday at the shop or they can be mailed, said owner Trisha Wicks. A half-hour massage is $30 and an hour session is $55. A half-hour reflexology appointment runs $25.

“Valentine's Day affords an opportunity for people to come in and try the service and once they realize how good they feel when they leave" they tend to keep coming back, Wicks said.

She has clients from Ames, Altoona, Winterset and around the metro area.

"They build that habit into their routine,” she said. "We tell people to pay attention to how they felt before they came in and after the release and relaxation" to decide when it's time for a return visit. "We tell people to pay attention to their bodies.”

If the mild weather gives way to an early spring, the store has zero-turn lawn mowers in stock. "We got 10 iunches of grass coming this weekend, I’ve got your mower," he joked. 

Also popular with guys are garage organizational systems and cabinets. Warmouth can order stainless steel countertops, workbenches and other features by Monday and they will usually be delivered on Thursday.

The systems can be made more affordable by purchasing different pieces for birthdays, Father’s Day, and other special events, he said.

With winter mostly avoiding Iowa so far, owner Lee Mundus said he's offering a special on stainless steel gas grills, such as a Kenmore four-burner for $279.99. Another good buy for a handyman is a 56-piece tool set for $89.99.

Or, women can bring their men through the store, "and see what he's eyeballing," Mundus said. “They can always can get the big screen TV, the flat panel TVs — they’re on sale now.”

Screen sizes range from 22 inches to 80 inches.
