You Won't Believe the Tip a Waukee Waitress Received

The generous tip came from a Kentucky man whose late brother urged his family to tip big for small checks.

A Kentucky man knew he was going to make one restaurant server's day when he ate at a Des Moines pizza place Wednesday.

The lucky server turned out to be Cassie Beverly of Waukee, who got a $500 tip for a small pizza pizza and a beer, the Des Moines Register reports.

Seth Collins of Lexington, KY, handed the 29-year-old Fong’s Pizza waitress the huge tip, part of a way to honor his brother Aaron, who died at age 30 in 2012. Aaron's will told his family to “leave an awesome tip.” Not 25 percent, the newspaper said, but $500 for a pizza.

His family collected about $60,000 in donations to give out 120 tips.

Beverly told the newspaper she would share some of the tip money with others, and save the rest for school and her two children. The largest tip she ever received in her year and a half waiting at Fong’s was $50 for a $50 bill, she said.

“Anything is always appreciated,” Beverly told the Register. “An extra $5 goes a long way. To have it be that much more is incredible.”
