Start Your Weekend With Some Laughs
Augie Smith and Mike MacRae share billing at the Funny Bone Comedy Club, 560 S. Prairie View Drive, through Saturday. In intelligently written rants, Smith dissects pop culture and political targets piece by piece. Guests can expect MacRae’s trademark combination of insightful social and cultural commentary with uncanny, unique impressions. Shows are at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m.

Take a Walk to Fund a Minute of MDA Research
The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Muscle Walk takes place from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Valley West Mall, 1551 Valley West Drive. Pre-register your team at 453-9489 or online, or just show up a half hour before the walk gets under way. Individuals and teams are encouraged to raise at least $74 in donations – the cost to pay for one minute of MDA research into treatments and cures for muscle diseases.

Get in the Swim
West Des Moines Valley boys’ swimmers participate in the boys’ varsity district tournament hosted by Southeast Polk High School, 8325 N.E. University Ave., Pleasant Hill, beginning at 12:30.

‘Don’t Forget to Dance’
The Madhat Ballroom, 1751 28th St., Suite 312, brings “Dancing With the 4th Street Swing” to its new studio in Governor’s Square. The dance is from 8 to 11 p.m., but arrive early at 7 p.m for a dance lesson included in the cost of a ticket. Guests can bring their own beer or wine. Bring a dance partner, but if you don’t have one, you might meet him or her there. The Madhat Ballroom is now hosting the Thursday Night Swing Socials that were held at the former Ingersoll Dinner Theatre in Des Moines.

Dance Without Limits
The School of Classical Ballet and Dance 1721 25th St., is accepting registration for its spring session of Dance Without Limits, a nine-week session beginning Sunday for children with physical and cognitive disabilities. The classes focus on providing professional dance instruction for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the joy of dance. The class wraps up with an April 9 performance. Meeting times are:
