Allegedly Drunk Man Rousted From Slumber Asks West Des Moines Police Why He's in Jail
Police receive a report that barefoot man whose feet were caked in mud passed out in grass at West Glen Town Center.

A 26-year-old Norwalk man reportedly asked authorities why he was in jail after police rousted him from a grassy area outside the West Glen Town Center bar where he was sleeping early Sunday morning.
Sobriety tests showed James Bradley Martin, 4153 113th Ave., had a blood-alcohol content of .191 and was charged with public intoxication, according to a report on file at the . Authorities were called to the West Glen bar district about 2:51 a.m. after a passerby reported a man was passed out in the grass.
Martin was barefoot and his feet were caked in mud. When police approached him, he did not move. The officer attempted to wake him by shaking him, but he remained unresponsive. After police told him to “get up or go to jail, he finally woke up,” according to the report, but “looked confused.”
According to the report, Martin produced his cell phone when asked for his identification and replied “yes” when asked where he was staying.
He did finally acknowledge that he was staying at a friend’s home, but was unable to provide her name or address, police said. When Martin tried to call a friend for a ride, he entered “314” on the phone’s keypad over and over, according to the report.
At 3:05 a.m, police placed Martin under arrest for public intoxication and he was booked in the Polk County Jail.
