1. ARTSwork Launches The Invitational Art Fair (dmcityview.com) — A new Invitational Art Fair is coming to the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines on November 6–7, bringing 50 professional Iowa artists, live music, food, and drinks. Locals can attend a public Saturday session for $8 at the door or buy $5 advance tickets online, and browse an artist gallery before deciding which booths to visit.
2. Food Network alum Nash Roe launches new Iowa culinary show (desmoinesregister.com subscription) — A Valley High School senior from West Des Moines, Nash Roe, is launching a new Iowa-focused culinary docu-series, "Degree of Flavor," built around Des Moines Area Community College's Iowa Culinary Institute. The Food Network alum plans to keep his growing media brand rooted in Iowa, spotlighting local chefs, restaurants, and food traditions on broadcast TV and free streaming.
3. Public Health Economist Publishes Research on Impact of E-Cigarette Tax (rcreader.com) — From West Des Moines, a Des Moines University public health economist reports that higher e-cigarette taxes may unintentionally increase children's exposure to cigarette smoke at home, especially in lower-education households. The study suggests that pushing cigarette and vape taxes toward parity can shift some adults back to smoking, raising concerns for kids' long-term health and future smoking risks.
4. Trump lawsuit over Iowa Poll dismissed with prejudice (littlevillagemag.com) — Iowa courts have now dismissed with prejudice Donald Trump's state lawsuit over a 2024 Des Moines Register Iowa Poll, reinforcing strong First Amendment protections for political polling and reporting. A separate federal case brought earlier by a Trump supporter from West Des Moines was also thrown out, signaling that similar consumer-fraud challenges to election polling are unlikely to succeed in Iowa.
