• Overnight closures set on westbound I-80 in West Des Moines (muscatinejournal.com) — West Des Moines drivers should prepare for nightly closures of westbound I‑80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and Grand Prairie Parkway from Sunday night, Oct. 11, through Friday morning, Oct. 16. On‑ramps at the Mixmaster, 60th Street, and Jordan Creek Parkway will also close, with a marked detour using University Avenue and Grand Prairie Parkway and work‑zone fines doubled for violations.
• 'Invisible in plain sight.' • HHS Announces Up to $27.8 Million for Falls Prevention (hhs.gov) — A West Des Moines-based nonprofit, Iowa Community HUB, has been awarded nearly $1.94 million over three years to expand evidence-based fall prevention programs for older Iowans. The federal HHS funding will help connect local health providers with community classes that improve balance, strength, and home safety, aiming to reduce injuries and keep more seniors living independently.
