Arthritis Walk Big Success

The Des Moines Arthritis Walk, presented locally by HyVee was held Saturday, May 11 at Copper Creek Lake Shelter in Pleasant Hill.  The walk had 150 participants and raised $27,478 to date!  Tori’s Troopers was the top fundraising team!  Victoria “Tori” Baker also served as this year’s Youth Honoree for the Arthritis Walk.  This brave 8 year old, second grader suffers from juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).

The Arthritis Walk is the signature fundraising event in the fight against arthritis.  It is a celebration of year-round movement.  Money raised supports the research, programs and services of the Arthritis Foundation.  There are 564,000 people in Iowa who suffer with some form of arthritis; many of them are children under the age of 18, like Tori Baker.

If you were unable to attend this year’s Arthritis Walk and would like to make a donation please contact Steve Brill, Arthritis Foundation Director of Special Events-Central Iowa at (515) 278-0636 or sbrill@arthritis.org.

About the Arthritis Foundation
Striking one in every five adults and 300,000 children, arthritis is the nation’s leading cause of disability.  The Arthritis Foundation (www.arthritis.org) is committed to raising awareness and reducing the impact of this serious disease, which can severely damage joints and rob people of living life to its fullest.  The Foundation funds life-changing research that has restored mobility in patients for more than six decades; fights for healthcare policies that improve the lives of the millions who live with arthritis; and partners with families to provide empowering programs and information.
