Annual West Des Moines Police Week Picnic is Wednesday

Activities include a ceremony at 5, followed by family friendly activities.

The will join law enforcement officials across the country during National Police Week in honoring those who have given the ultimate sacrifice – their lives – to keep their communities safe.

Wednesday’s local celebration at the police station, 250 Mills Civic Parkway, includes an opening ceremony at 5 p.m., followed by a community picnic during which a variety of family-friendly activities will take place. Food will be provided.

The West Des Moines Police Department Honor Guard, the MacKenzie Highlander Bagpipers and Des Moines Police Department’s Mounted Patrol will be part of the official ceremony.

Activities include free bicycle helmet distribution, a jump house and climbing wall, Shriner’s clown. Rony, the K-9 police officer, will also attend.
