Art, Nocturnal Creatures and More To Do This Weekend in West Des Moines
Start your weekend out with a stroll around Valley Junction or a night-time hike through Brown's Woods.

What’s cooking for the weekend, West Des Moines? Here are five ideas to get you started:
Friday: Historic Valley Junction will be teeming with activity from 5 to 9 tonight at Gallery Night. Eleven galleries will be open in this Historic Valley Junction Foundation-sponsored event, one of the largest merchant events in the popular destination for arts and eclectic shopping experiences.
Friday: The Polk County Conservation Department’s night hike in Brown’s Woods offers a chance to see nocturnal creatures rarely seen during the day. The program’s free and pre-registration is not required. Just show up at the parking lot at First Street and Brown’s Woods Drive around 7 o’clock.
Friday and Saturday: This weekend is the last chance to catch Tallgrass Theatre presentation of Lonely Planet, a story of fear, friendship and compassion in the age of AIDS. Curtain time both nights is 7:30 p.m. at Rex Mathes Auditorium, 1401 Vine St.
Saturday: What else do you need, ladies? Nearly 40 vendors will be on hand at “Wine Women and Shopping” at from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave.
Sunday: West Des Moines Community Schools host a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday for the district’s newest building, Crossroads Park Elementary School, 1050 50th St.
