Avoid I-35 Southbound on Evening Commute

A semi-truck that wrecked and caught fire this afternoon has kept traffic on Interstate 35 southbound at a standstill.

Traffic is slowly moving again after a semi-trailer rig crashed and burned at about noon today, keeping vehicles on Interstate 35 in West Des Moines crawling for hours.

KCCI.com reports that one lane of I-35 southbound is reopening in time for the drive home. But, traffic is still backed up and commuters should look for another route home.

Southbound traffic had been diverted off the interstate at Mills Civic Parkway, so that street is also congested. Northbound lanes of I-35 were not affected.
