Back to School: When Is Registration for West Des Moines Schools?

Most West Des Moines elementary schools conduct mail-in registration in the spring for returning students. However, families may also register and pay fees in August during walk-in registration at their neighborhood schools.

For junior high and high school students, here’s what you need to know:

• Seventh grade – Thursday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Eighth grade – Friday, Aug. 10, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• All students – Monday, Aug. 13, 3 to 7 p.m.
• New family orientation and ESL registration is Monday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m.

• Last names A-M – Friday, Aug. 10, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 to 3 p.m.
• Last names N-Z – Monday, Aug. 13, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 to 3 p.m.
• All  – Tuesday, Aug. 14, 3-7 p.m.

Mail-in registration packets were sent to high school students around the end of June. Students were encouraged to take advantage of that opportunity to pre-register. However, all students must participate in the on-site registration process this month, but for those who mailed in their paperwork early, on-site registration should be much quicker.

• Seniors, A-K – Thursday, Aug. 9, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
• Seniors, L-Z  – Thursday, Aug. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• New students – Friday, Aug. 10, by appointment early
• Juniors, A-K – Monday, Aug. 13, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
• Juniors, L-Z – Monday, Aug. 13, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Sophomores, A-K, – Tuesday Aug. 14, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
• Sophomores, L-Z – Tuesday, Aug. 14, 11:30  to 3 p.m.
• Any student – Wednesday, Aug. 15,  3 to 6 p.m.

New students should call 633-4130 to set up an appointment. Also, anyone preferring an evening appointment is welcome to rgister Aug. 15 until 6 p.m.

• Continuing West Des Moines Community School students – Thursday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Continuing West Des Moines Community school students – Friday, Aug. 10, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• New families – Friday, Aug. 10, 2 to 5 p.m.
• Continuing West Des Moines Community School students – Monday, Aug. 13, 2 to 7 p.m.

• All students – Wednesday, Aug. 8, noon to 5 p.m.

Non- or limited-English-speaking students new to the district should register through the Welcome Center located at Valley High School. Call (515) 633-4001 to schedule an appointment.
