Boyfriend Allegedly Ran Over Woman Because She Didn't Want Him Near Another Woman

The West Des Moines victim says a knee injury suffered in the mishpa requires her to use crutches.

An 18-year-old West Des Moines woman told police her boyfriend ran her over with his car after she disapproved of the way another woman was dressed and wanted him to stay away from the other woman.

West Des Moines Police Officer Jeremy Kemmer was sent to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at 5:19 a.m. Oct. 28 to take the report after the woman’s friend drove her to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to Kemmer’s report, a group of five people – two couples in one car and a lone woman in the second – met at a convenience store. The three women were in the restroom together and the victim reportedly said that she didn’t want her boyfriend around the woman they’d followed “because of the way she was dressed.”

The woman reported the conversation to the suspect, who confronted his girlfriend at the cashier’s counter, then grabbed her car keys from where she had placed them on the counter, left the store and attempted to drive away, striking the other two women.

“As he was in the driver’s seat, the two women were standing between the open door and the driver seat,” Kemmer wrote. “He backed up and struck both of them, knocking them to the ground.”

The suspect then reportedly got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene, and the victim’s friend drove her to the hospital.

The victim suffered a knee injury that will require her to use crutches, according to the report.
