Fun Holiday Activities with Family

Making a list, checking it twice… add these activities to your list of holiday musts!

Trim the Tree: The tree might already be decorated, but adding an ornament or two never hurts. Make your own ornaments and treasure them for years to come. These candy cane ornaments and ribbon candy ornaments are sweet (literally)!

Bah Hum Bug: Don’t be a scoorge, get into the holiday spirit, and enjoy a performance of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol at the Repertory Theater of Iowa with friends. Afterwards, share your favorite parts of the play over hot cocoa at Smokey Row.

Random Acts of Kindness: Tis the season to be jolly… find fun ways to brighten others’ days! The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website has great ideas.

Kwanzaa – a Celebration of Family, Community & Culture: Celebrate Kwanzaa on December 29^th from 5-8 p.m. at Creative Visions and enjoy fun activities.

Ice Skating: What says “winter” more than ice skating at the Brenton Skating Plaza or at Metro Ice Sports Facility? Imagine you are a budding Olympic skater and create a routine bound to impress.

Holiday Cookies and Movies: Spend the afternoon baking holiday cookies, and then deliver platefuls of cookies to friends. Afterwards, relax and watch a holiday movie, such as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Elf,” or “Home Alone.”

Snowshoe: Go on a snowshoe hike at Easter Lake Park on December 26th.

Animal Winter Survival: Learn how animals survive Iowa winter on December 28th at the West Des Moines Library.
