“Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, our initiative involves raising awareness of breast cancer and benefitting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization,” says Chow’s Booster Club President Kristina Hamilton. “We’ve designed a ‘Flip for a Cure’ leotard that all competing gymnasts can purchase, with all proceeds going directly to Susan G. Komen. Thus far, we’ve raised nearly $1,000, and a representative from Susan G. Komen will be on hand to receive the official ‘big’ check.”

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide. One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. “We know that breast cancer prevention starts with healthy habits,” says Hamilton. “Studies have shown that women who get regular physical activity like these gymnasts will reduce the risk of developing cancer.”
