Citing Safety Concerns, Lambert & Ewers Smoked Meats Relocates

Customers can still order the same smoked meats they've been enjoying for 27 years and get free delivery.

Lambert & Ewers Smoked Meats, a destination store in Valley Junction for more than 27 years, locked the door on the business last week, citing safety concerns.

“It is surreal to realize you’ve served your customers for 27 years and you are forced to closed,” owner Bruce Lambert said in a news release.  “Unfortunately, we couldn’t ignore the safety concerns of the building any longer and needed to make a tough decision.”

About four years ago, a sink hole swallowed a large portion of the alley adjacent to the Lambert & Ewers building.  Ever since, the sloping floor inside the 100-year-old building dramatically worsened.

“We just made the decision the safety of our customers and employees came first and without a commitment from the landlord to fix the issue, we decided not to renew our lease,”  Lambert said.

Lambert & Ewers Smoked Meats will continue to operate out of its headquarters and service the Des Moines area with free home and commercial delivery.

“Until we find a new location to service our customers from, we have hired delivery drivers to provide free delivery service of our products,” Lambert said.

“Customers are already used to ordering from our website at www.4hams.com, we just added a free delivery option.”

The business can still be reached through the same telephone numbers of  (515) 279-2404,  (800) 446-6999 or through the web site.

“We are worried that our customer’s will not realize we are still servicing the area, however we know what we are doing is worth the risk,” Lambert said.
