Clean up your car, canine at shelter event

The local no-kill animal shelter will host its annual dog and car wash from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 11. Doggie baths will take place on the shelter’s lawn, 1211 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, while cars will be washed in the parking lot across the street.

Each cleaning is only $15, with add-ons available. A nail trim for your pup will cost an extra $5, and a rain-repellant treatment for your windshield is $25.

All proceeds support Furry Friends Refuge and its mission of building no-kill communities. So save yourself time by visiting the dog and car wash, and you’ll also help save animals’ lives.

Furry Friends Refuge is a nonprofit humane organization serving the animals of West Des Moines, Urbandale and Clive. The volunteer-supported group adopted out 1,077 animals last year for a live-release rate of 97 percent, and also achieved a live-release rate of over 90 percent in 2013.
